Weekly Homework

This year your child will be given math homework every week Monday through Thursday.  The homework will be similar to the math work that was done in class each day so your child should be familiar with how to do the work.  Please refer back to the Homework Helpers that will come home on Mondays.  They are a big help for the week’s homework.

Our class will also have reading fluency homework 3-4 days each week. This homework is part of our new Language Arts program. Fluency homework will begin after we have set up all of our routines in class. A  family letter attached to the first fluency sheet with more information explaining the reading fluency homework will be sent home with the first reading fluency homework sheet.

Because the purpose of the homework is to develop fluent readers, your child will be rereading the same passage multiple nights. The fluency sheet will come back and forth between home and school each night while working on the passage. Please have your child keep the fluency sheet in their homework folder. There will be a place for you to sign indicating that your child read the fluency passage.

As the year progresses, we may be adding more reading practice for homework.  Until then, it is always suggested that your child read for 10-15  minutes nightly.  The best way to instill a love of reading is to find a book or series of books that your child enjoys and to make reading a part of your nightly routine.

Please encourage your child to take responsibility for returning homework each day.  We suggest that you make it your child’s job to put the homework in his/her backpack as soon as it is finished.  Encouraging good homework habits now can help students be successful throughout their years in school.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at [email protected] As always, thank you for your support!
