              Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to Ranger Elementary School Kindergarten!  I am so excited to welcome you and your child to one of the most important milestones in his/her life- the first day of school!  I understand that you and your child may have excitement and apprehension about this. I hope this resource will serve to answer any questions you may have now and throughout the year.

Please contact the school with notices of absences, changes in address, phone numbers, emergency contact information, etc.

Every child will receive a home-school communication folder.  This will go home daily with notes and completed work for you to look at.  Any notes for the teacher and lunch order slips may be sent to school in this folder.  Please assure your child is at school regularly and promptly to allow for his or her best success.  It is crucial for your child to be at school from 8:43-3:25 each day.  Please inform the school of absences due to illness or if your child has a contagious disease.
Daily, read and then read again!  Look at the current newsletter for more ways to support your child at home.

It is important that your child come to school every day ready to learn. This includes being prepared for specials.  To help you in preparing your child please use this schedule.  On gym days please be sure your child wears sneakers and appropriate clothing.
Monday: Gym and Music

Tuesday: Gym

Wednesday: Health

Thursday: Library

Friday: Art

Each day there will be a snack time.  Please send a nutritious snack to school with your child.  This should take no longer than five to ten minutes to eat.  A napkin or paper towel should also be included.  Please avoid all nut/peanut snacks as your child is in a nut-free classroom.

**Please label all your child’s belongings and be sure your child knows how to

Chartwells is the food service company that provides the school lunches.  Their menu is available on the school website under the Parent Resource Center.  A copy of the menu will also be emailed to you monthly.  Milk is included with each school lunch and is also available separately.   Each week features 3 choices*; choice 1 is different each day of the week while choices 2 and 3 remain the same for that week.  If you are planning to have your child order lunch, please review the menu with your child at home so he/ she knows which selection to make upon arrival.

For the first few months of school we will send home an order sheet for you to complete with your child to help in this process.  If you feel your child will need a reminder beyond this time frame, feel free to use scrap paper to indicate the lunch choice.

*subject to change

Information about bussing can be found on the Tiverton Schools website:

For the first few weeks of school your child has a bus or walker necklace to wear home.  Please be sure the necklace comes back to school each day as your child will wear it to assure the bus drivers, monitors and teachers on duty know where your child belongs during dismissal time.

At dismissal time at school and when the bus reaches its stop, the parent, relative or authorized adult
must have the child’s ID card with them.  Should your transportation choice change for the day, a phone call or written note must be received by the school.  We cannot accept a verbal message from your child.

During the first few weeks of school, please allow for some wiggle room with the timing of the bus stops as we are making sure all children are where they should be.

A regular sized backpack (no wheels) and a lunch box/ paper bag for lunch and snack should come to and from school each day with your child.  It would be very helpful if you could label your child’s snack so that he or she knows what to eat at snack time.  A sticker or smiley face with a sharpie are suggestions for this.  In addition, see the below list of requested Kindergarten supplies.

Kindergarten progress reports or report cards are done for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th terms only, no first term progress report.  I will send home a copy of a blank progress report sometime in November.

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled district wide twice a year- November and February.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.

There will be a kindergarten newsletter to keep you informed about what’s going on in our classroom and school.  I will send an email copy of this unless a hard copy is requested.

  • Please do NOT send in birthday invitations unless all students are invited.  We are also not allowed to have snacks sent in for birthdays due to the district’s health and wellness policy.
Please do NOT send your child to school with toys unless requested by the teacher.
  • Scholastic Book Orders- Your child will be bringing home a form to order books about once a month.  If you wish to order, simply fill out the form and send it and a check/money order payable to “Scholastic Books” back to school.  Orders provide points which allow the classroom library to grow!
You are in no way obligated to order.

*Your child is welcome to use a
water bottle in school since the bubbler is closed this year.  Since the Chromebooks will be on the tables, a sports bottle with an open/close top is preferred over a twist cap bottle.

I am looking forward to a great year working with your child!

Welcome to Kindergarten!
