With specialized training in both the fields of psychology and
education, the school psychologist provides support to the school system
in several capacities. As part of a multi-disciplinary special
education team, the school psychologist provides assessment of
learning aptitudes, personality and emotional development, and assists
in determining eligibility for special needs services. Additionally, the
school psychologist engages in intervention activities
including assistance in helping students with adjustment difficulties
and behavioral management issues. The school psychologist is also an
integral member of the school’s Crisis Intervention Team,
providing consultation in critical situations that occur in the school
setting that affect the safety and welfare of the school community. The
school psychologist works actively in the field of prevention, helping to design programs that help foster a positive, safe learning environment
